past, present & future
'pool sees the importance in looking at our city's history within the context of today's Liverpool; the resonance that historic events have in our present and the way that they can shape the future.
By unearthing forgotten histories we can resurrect the forgotten namesake of our city and learn from our heritage to influence the future...

history
November 9th, 1561 The Storms
The repairing of the haven after the great storms of November 9th 1561. At that time Liverpool had a population of about 700 people who lived in Water Street, Tithebarn Street, Castle Street, Dale Street, Juggler Street and Old Hall Street. Free labour was given to one street a day in rotation until the sea defences were repaired. This was not finished until a month later, December 6th, St Nicholas Day.
March 20th, 1672 Common rights established
Caryl Lord Molyneux agreed to give up the township of Liverpool and agreed that the townspeople had common rights to the land across the tidal pool.
local issues
'pool is keen to raise awareness of local issues that affect us as citizens of Liverpool. We believe that by pooling resources and taking positive action we can influence the city's destiny and leave a legacy deserved of such a city.
Through our workshops and events we have gathered some comments that reflect some current areas of concern in the city centre:
Accessibility
"I don’t need much help in the city centre, one developer took us all round and talked to us about what we wanted, so I thought it would all be like that now, but the little shops in the met quarter have stairs inside them…"
Young People
"We need to meet in groups at our age, there is no where young people can meet in the city centre they move us on always."
"They have the law but we are the future, we need a bit of help"
"Police moved me on the other day and I was just carrying my skateboard"
"I don’t go in the city centre"
Sole Traders
"How can I cope with all these shops arriving? And yet it is our little shop that gives this street its identity."
"I do the purchasing for a small whole food shop. People wish to eat better but all the local dairies bakeries and nursery gardens have gone. We cannot get enough local food to supply the community round our shop even if we want to."
The exhausting and difficult process to be heard
"We see this great building going up, we get all the mess and noise, but we can’t afford to live there or shop there and they are not nice people to clean for either"
"I never got a job, now I am part of a self build project things might be better at the end of it"
"There used to be seating, drinking water and public toilets they are human rights; now they have all gone"
Future
