Examinng the archeology under Queen Victorias Skirt
We looked at the size of the castle and so we divided into small groups and went off to the corner towers of the site to wave at each other, this was diffiult as the site was too big and we were dissapearing behing buildings off Castle Street.
The castle was built by the Ferrars family, local land owners, their power must have been extraordinary as the castle is as big as Harlech which was built much later by King Edward
We walked round the site. Looking at the remaining vantage points of the old peninsular, seen through the Paradise projects baricades down by the law courts. We worked out that the original orientation of the streets was towards the sea entry of the Mersey, whilst the entry to the tidal pool would have been impossible without permission from the castle.
A daily post photographer came to take some pictures of this newsworthy group of picnicers and we went for a warm up coffee and more chat at the MangeTout coffee bar.
